From Val-David to Prévost (Shawbridge)

Embark on the nordic ski trails created by the pioneers of cross-country skiing in America, while enjoying the comfort of top-quality accommodation. Travel back in time to the golden years of early 20th century nordic skiing.

East Route Itinerary and lodging

SUMMARY

  • 45 km (28 miles) backcountry cross-country ski expedition
  • 10 km (6 miles) on shared trails (classic cross-country ski)
  • 3 days of skiing – 10 to 20 km/day (6 to 12 miles/day)
  • Linear route – public bus from Prévost to depart
  • Luggage transport organized for guided trips
  • 2 nights in local inns and hotels

LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY

  • A moderate to challenging route for experienced cross-country skiiers

Day 1

  • Meet in Prévost in the morning.
  • Take the public “snow bus” to Val-David.
  • Walk and visit the heart of Val-David village.
  • Ski 13 km (8 miles) on the famous Gillespie brothers trail in Val-David and Val-Morin.
  • Lunch on the trails prepared by the guide (if guided).
  • 3 km (2 miles) on shared trails (classic cross-country ski).

Lodging and supper in Val-Morin.

Day 2

  • Enjoy a continental breakfast.
  • Ski 20 km (12 miles) from Val-Morin to Sainte-Adèle.
  • Follow the tracks of Jackrabbit Johannsen and Eddy Fortier.
  • Enjoy a picnic near the former chalet of Émile Cochand.
  • Ski the final stretch of 4 km (2.5 miles) on the P’tit Train du Nord.

Lodging and supper in Sainte-Adèle.

Day 3

  • Enjoy a copious breakfast at Au Clos Rolland.
  • Warm up on the P’tit Train du Nord (1 km/0.6 miles).
  • Enter the wooded backcountry trails towards the village of Piedmont.
  • Leave your nordic skis and take a break in the Sommet Olympia chalet.
  • Lunch on the trails prepared by the guide (if guided).
  • Continue towards Prévost through the Alfred Kelly natural reserve.
  • Finish with a well-deserved après-ski beer at the renowned Shawbridge Microbrewery

Day 1 Extended Option

  • Option only for seasoned self-guided skiers, adds 5.5 km (3.5 miles).
  • Organise a car shuttle between Prévost and Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts.
  • Embark on the demanding and thrilling nordic ski trail, the Gillespie.
  • Stay at the Far Hills hotel for the night.
  • Continue with standard description of day 2 and 3.

GUIDED TOUR

Maximize on your nordic skiing experience by opting for a guided package. We will organise everything – hotels, access, food and safety. Maximum size of group: 8.

Self-guided tour

You are responsible for forming your group and ensuring that you have the necessary conditions, skills and equipment for your backcountry cross-country ski trip.
